Underground Gold Miners MuseumAlleghany, CA - Stepping back in time has never been so much fun as it is when going to the Underground Gold Miners Museum. One of the things to make sure you see at the Gold Museum is the videos of actual mining operations at the Original Sixteen to One Mine, Inc., the oldest operating gold mining company in the United States. In their viewing area, the ambience of the room and the informative videos give the feeling of a day in the life of a miner.
The Underground Gold Miners Museum has on display a number of the unique tools and equpment used for Hard Rock Gold Mining. On display also are gold specimens and jewelry for sale in their gift shop from the quartz gold and crystalline gold which comes out of the Original Sixteen to One Mine.
While visiting the museum; on display was the "The Whopper." The Whopper is one of the most impressive specimens of quartz gold to come out of the mine in modern history. It weighs in at 14 pounds and contains 140 troy ounces of gold. Read more about
